Celebrate the Class of 2020 with These Creative Ideas

As commencement ceremonies are canceled and graduation parties are postponed, taking time to celebrate this year’s graduating class is particularly important. After years of hard work, the class of 2020 deserves to be recognized, and despite our unusual circumstances, there are still plenty of opportunities to share excitement for the adventure ahead.

During this time of social distancing, we’ve rounded up a few ideas for honoring the graduates in your life.

Host a virtual graduation ceremony

Don’t put away that cap and gown just yet! Your graduate can still dress up and receive their diploma in front of loved ones.

Create your own ceremony and invite friends and family to watch over a video conferencing service. Set up festive decorations and ask guests to dress up for the occasion. You can even ask a few people to prepare a toast. Several sites offer fun printable diplomas that you can personally hand off to the celebrant.

Record a video tribute

Ask friends, family members, and teachers to record messages and create a special video tribute. Loved ones can share a fun memory, impart words of wisdom, or simply express how proud they are of the graduating student. These reflections will become a touching time capsule the graduate can treasure for years to come.

Organize a graduation parade

Invite people to cheer on the graduate from a safe social distance! Decorate your car with balloons, streamers, and banners. Play chauffeur to the celebrant as you drive with windows down and music blaring. Friends, family, and even strangers can wave and clap for your graduate as you drive by.

You can coordinate with other graduating students and establish a parade route for a truly memorable procession.

Send an inspiring gift

Even if you can’t be there in person, send a gift that expresses your joy and appreciation for the graduate. Our inspiration and activity books share encouragement alongside positive prompts, for graduation gifts that are creative as well as meaningful. Titles like 5: Where Will You Be Five Years from Today? offer fuel for embracing possibility and the bright future ahead.

However you decide to celebrate the graduates in your life, we know you’ll find a genuine way to cheer them on to that next step and remind them that their talent and hard work will bring good things to the world.
