How Our Team Celebrates Earth Day Every Day

Untitled design (26)

Earth Day is much more than a date on the calendar. It is an invitation to reflect on the connection we share with the planet all year long. And it’s a reminder that our actions, however simple, can have a meaningful impact on the world around us. In honor of Earth Day, we’re sharing some of the ways our team finds joy through their relationship with nature, and the practices that help them deepen that bond. We hope their stories inspire you to consider what the natural world might be inviting you to discover, care for, and celebrate.

Cleaning Streets and Creating Community

“Picking up litter during my neighborhood walks is a fun and easy way to care for my community and the environment. It not only keeps our streets clean but also sparks conversations with neighbors, inspiring others to take small actions that add up to a big impact. Change starts locally, and this is one small way I can contribute to a healthier, more beautiful place for everyone.” —Tammy M.

Connecting with Family Through Gardening

Untitled design (23)

“My family has been farming for at least 3 generations, and I grew up on a farm in central Florida. Having lived through famine in their youth, our grandparents taught us the importance of self-sufficiency through farming, foraging, and fishing. But I hated the dirt, snakes, and bugs, so I wanted to grow up to work in an office instead of a farm. And yet, years later, I find myself finding happiness and leisure by playing with dirt and plants!

“My grandma and mom have retired from farming, but they still garden a lot. These days, even though we all live in different parts of the country, I trade seeds and cuttings with my grandma, mom, siblings, and aunties. Even if we are miles apart, it fills my heart to know that our gardens are all connected, and we are laboring over the same things together.”—Chau T.

Experiencing the Thrill of Thrifting

“One of my favorite ways to practice sustainability in my daily life is by thrifting most of my wardrobe. Not only are you helping the planet by not contributing to textile waste, you also can score fun, unique finds at the thrift store that no one else has. I also have a love for vintage fashion, so the two hobbies often go hand in hand.” —Moira C.

Finding Wonder with Backyard Chickens

Untitled design (22)

“When we moved to our first house a few years ago, we jumped at the chance to convert one of the three woodsheds into a chicken coop and pen. The names our daughter Bailey has given our chickens are Marshmallow, Strawberry, Ice Cream, and Cupcake. They are all hens—no roosters—as we learned that you don't need roosters if you just want eggs!

“One of my favorite things to do is pull up a chair and just watch them, honestly. I throw some scratch (mix of seeds and dried mealworms) into the dirt and listen to their soft voices, watch their pecking order as some of them insist on being the first to the water cooler, and look at their little dinosaur legs slowly and methodically walking about their pen. We can’t wait to add a few more to our flock this spring!” —Annie B.

How can you connect with the world around you today? We invite you to reflect on the sustainable practices that bring you joy—and to explore new ways to care for the Earth this season, in a way that feels true to you!
